Our thoughts are with the friends and family of Alan G. Poindexter today as we mourn his death. His tragic loss saddens us all, but his successful missions and career should remain an inspiration to current and future generations of space explorers. As a former Navy Captain, we also thank him for his heroic service to our country.

Hyde Memorial Observatory is, as far as we know, the only observatory anywhere that is: built, furnished and operated entirely by donations, devoted exclusively to public viewing, completely free of admission charge, staffed only by volunteers. Mueller Planetarium was born out of the space race. In 1957, the then Soviet Union launched the world's first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1. On July 15 of that same year, ground-breaking took place on the Ralph Mueller Planetarium - Theatre of the Stars.
In 50 years, humanity's knowledge of the Universe has reached beyond our wildest dreams. With Mueller Planetarium, the dreams, and the learning will continue.
