July 2012 PAC Program – Nebraska Star Party Update and Recap

Posted by Jason Noelle on June 30, 2012

Welcome to the Prairie Astronomy Club web site. Please consider coming to one of our meetings. Guests are not only welcome but encouraged to come out. We usually have a short (less than 30 minute) meeting portion that includes a very interesting report on what’s up in the current night skies followed by the evening’s program.

This month’s PAC Meeting will be on July 31st. July’s program will be an update of the Nebraska Star Party that is held at Merritt Reservoir near Valentine, NE.

So come join us for this interesting program:

PRAIRIE ASTRONOMY CLUB MEETING

AT HYDE MEMORIAL OBSERVATORY (SOUTH SIDE OF HOLMES PARKLAKE)

TUESDAY, JULY 31, 2012

7:30 PM TO 9:00 PM

JULY’S PROGRAM – NEBRASKA STAR PARTY UPDATE

If you’re interested in the hobby of astronomy, the Prairie Astronomy Club can help you get started. We meet every last Tuesday of the month at Hyde Memorial Observatory on the south side of Holmes Lake in Lincoln, Nebraska. You can meet some of the nicest people in Nebraska and certainly people more than willing to help you get started in astronomy.

Future Programs for the PAC Meetings will be:

Aug 2012: Space Update: Jason Noelle will give a program – subject yet to be determined.

Sep 2012: Fun With Astronomy: The PAC Executive Board will put together a short collection of fun, humorous clips about space and astronomy. You don’t want to miss the fun.

Oct 2012: Computer Astronomy This one is still tentative. Brian Sivill is considering giving a program on computer astronomy. Just what that entails – well, you’ll have to wait for the trailers J.

Nov 2012: How to Buy a Telescope: This is our annual program on the do’s and don’ts of buying a telescope, either for yourself or as a present. After a very brief presentation members of the club will make themselves available to talk to guests and answer your questions.

    Hyde Memorial Observatory

Hyde Memorial Observatory is, as far as we know, the only observatory anywhere that is: built, furnished and operated entirely by donations, devoted exclusively to public viewing, completely free of admission charge, staffed only by volunteers. Hyde is open every Saturday evening, year round.

    Mueller Planetarium

Mueller Planetarium was born out of the space race. In 1957, the then Soviet Union launched the world's first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1. On July 15 of that same year, ground-breaking took place on the Ralph Mueller Planetarium - Theatre of the Stars.

In 50 years, humanity's knowledge of the Universe has reached beyond our wildest dreams. With Mueller Planetarium, the dreams, and the learning will continue.
